AABP Approves the following certifying bodies as credible measures of competence in their specific AABP Professional Membership category, toward AABP Professional Membership Criteria.
AABP Certifications Approval Criteria
- Requires and confirms formal science-based and current education with formal objective testing of skills (not mere attendance) in AABP professional membership specific core areas of competence from educational institutions that provide appropriate depth of study by competent instructors.
- Requires and confirms extensive (at least 300 hours) hands-on professional experience as a professional or in an internship program.
- Majority voted by the AABP Advisory Board (Director's vote breaks ties) for approval upon investigation into the credibility of the certifying body as a valid and reliable measure of competence in the specific membership category in question and to be approved for.
Approved Certifying Bodies for Trainers Professional Membership
- Delta Professional Dog Trainers Association Cert IV Companion Animal Services certification issued by the Delta Society Australia
- CCPDT CPDT certification (Counts toward Coaching/Instructing; Principles of Learning and Behavior; Biological Context for Behavior, but does not cover Training Technology or Professional Ethics--these must be covered by other certifications or coursework in these core areas of competence)
