Open letter to AABP Members

Welcome to the Association of Animal Behavior Professionals. Our goal is to build a community of animal behavior professionals who are dedicated to maintaining the highest standards in professionalism and are dedicated to non-aversive methods. This is a niche association. We encourage members to seek certification through certifying bodies and professional associations that are credible measures of competence. The AABP is a community of professionals with a particular interest to maintaining high standards in ethics and professionalism, and have a very strong commitment to animal-friendly methods. The AABP takes a strong stand against aversive methods and encourages creativity and high levels of competence in order to avoid aversive stimulation. Another characteristic of the AABP is that we promote a behavior analytic approach to changing behavior, as opposed to a medical-model (diagnosis-treatment) orientation. The AABP is dedicated to the science of behavior. We hope to provide members and the public with resources to help them achieve all of these goals. Yet another goal we have is to provide transparency. The standards we promote, the membership criteria as well as the professional practice guidelinescore areas of competence, Advisory Board members, and position statements will all be posted clearly here on the web site. We aim to provide members and the public with resources to help them achieve their goals

We welcome you to the AABP.

From the Director and Advisory Board Members of the Association of Animal Behavior Professionals
